Abstract
This project empowered young women from low-income communities through leadership development, vocational training, and life skills education, helping them build confidence, self-reliance, and new opportunities for personal growth.
Detailed Description
With support from IDS, Shikshantar launched the Jhadoo Pochcha Kranti Fellowship, a leadership development program for young women from underserved communities in and around Udaipur, Rajasthan. Many of the participants worked as domestic helpers and had limited access to educational and professional opportunities due to economic and social challenges.
The fellowship provided 15 women, aged 18 to 28, with a supportive learning environment where they could develop practical skills, leadership abilities, and self-confidence. Participants received training in areas such as healthy cooking, organic farming, upcycled crafts, community arts, grassroots filmmaking, theatre, communication, facilitation, and project management.
Through workshops, community projects, and peer learning activities, the women gained valuable experience while strengthening their ability to contribute positively to their communities. The program recognized and honored their existing contributions as family breadwinners while helping them discover new opportunities for personal and professional growth.
The success of the fellowship demonstrated its impact on participants’ lives and contributed to securing additional funding, enabling the program to continue supporting and empowering more young women in the future.
