Abstract

This project enhanced the employability of college students, particularly young women from disadvantaged backgrounds, through career counseling, skills training, internships, and workplace exposure programs.

Detailed Description

Medha is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving employment outcomes for college students by equipping them with the skills, confidence, and workplace experience needed to succeed in today’s job market. Recognizing that many graduates lack essential employability skills, Medha works primarily with students enrolled in government and government-aided colleges, with a strong focus on supporting young women and students from underserved communities. Through its Career Service Centers (CSCs), established within partner educational institutions, Medha provides career counseling, employability skills training, mentoring, and workplace readiness programs. These centers serve as on-campus hubs where students can access structured training, one-on-one guidance, and career development resources. The program combines 180 hours of employability and career skills training with 100 hours of internship experience, helping students gain practical exposure to professional work environments. Internship placements are tailored to students’ interests, skills, and available opportunities, with many internships leading directly to full-time employment. Over the years, Medha has expanded its reach from a small pilot program serving 57 students in three colleges to a large-scale initiative operating across multiple districts in Uttar Pradesh. Through partnerships with educational institutions and state education departments, the organization has significantly increased access to career development services for students who might otherwise lack such opportunities. The program has demonstrated measurable impact. Students participating in Medha’s initiatives secure jobs more quickly, are more likely to enter the formal workforce, earn higher incomes, qualify for government positions at greater rates, and pursue advanced education opportunities. By bridging the gap between education and employment, the project empowers young people to build sustainable careers and improve their long-term economic prospects.
