Abstract
This project improved community health and COVID-19 resilience in Telangana through medical camps, health education, nutritional support, free medicines, and awareness programs benefiting more than 1,500 individuals.
Detailed Description
With support from IDS, VASORD implemented a comprehensive health, education, and community empowerment program that benefited 1,524 men, women, and children in Telangana. The initiative addressed both ongoing healthcare needs and the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic through preventive healthcare services, medical camps, and community awareness activities.
The project initially focused on conducting health camps in villages around Shamshabad Mandal, screening school children for eye and ear conditions, supporting individuals with hypertension and diabetes, and providing nutritional supplements such as eggs and fruits to undernourished pregnant women. As the pandemic emerged, the program adapted to meet urgent community needs by distributing face masks, personal protective equipment, food rations, and free medicines to vulnerable populations, including pregnant women, daily wage earners, and individuals with chronic health conditions.
Community awareness campaigns promoted preventive measures such as mask usage, hand hygiene, and physical distancing. The project also supported students by providing technical assistance and training to access online education through smartphones and internet-based learning platforms. Through the active involvement of women leaders, youth groups, and local Gram Panchayats, the initiative strengthened community participation and ensured effective implementation of health and safety measures across the region.
