Abstract

This project supported marginalized communities in Gujarat through COVID-19 relief by providing food assistance, emergency relief kits, health awareness, and essential medical equipment to strengthen community resilience.

Detailed Description

With support from IDS, Utthan implemented a comprehensive COVID-19 response program across Gujarat to reduce the impact of the pandemic on marginalized communities. The initiative provided food and ration kits to 380 vulnerable families while conducting health awareness campaigns across 250 villages to educate communities about COVID-19 prevention, safety measures, and available support services. The project also distributed emergency relief kits to 49,213 families, helping ensure access to essential household supplies during the crisis. In addition, Utthan monitored the implementation of Central and State Government relief schemes, enabling vulnerable households to access the benefits and assistance for which they were eligible. To strengthen community healthcare, IDS funding supported the purchase of 100 oximeters and oxygen concentrators, improving the ability of local communities to monitor and respond to COVID-19-related health emergencies. Through an integrated approach combining relief, healthcare, and community awareness, the project helped protect vulnerable families and build resilience during the pandemic.
