Abstract
This project provided emergency food assistance and community support to waste picker families in Maharashtra, helping vulnerable households meet their basic needs during a time of crisis.
Detailed Description
With support from IDS, AVANI implemented a community development program for waste picker families living in slum communities across Maharashtra. The initiative focused on supporting one of the most vulnerable groups by addressing their immediate needs while promoting community well-being.
As part of the project, 500 food relief kits containing essential household supplies were distributed to rag picker families whose livelihoods were severely affected. The assistance helped improve food security and provided timely relief to families facing economic hardship.
Beyond emergency support, the program strengthened community resilience by working closely with waste picker communities to improve their overall well-being and encourage long-term social and economic development. Through targeted assistance and community engagement, the initiative helped vulnerable families navigate challenging circumstances with greater security and dignity.
