Abstract
This project supported the Borderless World Foundation’s residential home for orphaned girls in Jammu and Kashmir by providing digital learning infrastructure, including laptops, tablets, projectors, internet access, and other educational resources. The initiative benefited 90 girls, enhancing their educational opportunities and life skills through online learning.
Detailed Description
Borderless World Foundation (BWF) has been working in the conflict-affected regions of Jammu and Kashmir for more than a decade, supporting children and families impacted by violence and armed conflict. One of its flagship initiatives, Bassera-e-Tabassum (B-e-T), provides a safe residential home for orphaned girls, offering shelter, education, healthcare, and emotional support.
Through funding from India Development Service (IDS), the project strengthened digital learning opportunities for children residing at the home. The support enabled the purchase of four laptops, three projectors, twenty tablets, an Android TV, internet connectivity, and backup power infrastructure. These resources were used to establish and enhance e-learning facilities within the residential center.
Approximately 90 girls between the ages of 4 and 17 benefited from access to online educational programs, helping improve their academic performance, particularly in Mathematics and English. The digital resources also provided opportunities to learn English grammar, develop communication skills, and build self-confidence.
In addition to academic learning, the project facilitated virtual guest lectures on leadership, teamwork, empathy, fearlessness, and other life skills. Children also explored creative and cultural activities through online platforms, including classical music, dance, and cooking programs.
The digital infrastructure proved especially valuable during periods when schools were closed, allowing students to continue their education through online classes and interactive learning sessions. The project has significantly expanded educational access and contributed to the personal growth, confidence, and future aspirations of the girls living at Bassera-e-Tabassum.
