This project improved educational infrastructure at a school in Uttarakhand by installing a solar-powered lighting system, ensuring reliable electricity for students and staff while promoting renewable energy use.

With support from IDS, the Himalayan Education Foundation (HEF), in partnership with Avani, implemented a solar energy project to address the challenges of unreliable electricity in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. The project involved the installation of a solar-powered LED lighting system that provides uninterrupted lighting across classrooms, the library, dormitories, dining hall, offices, and teachers’ quarters. The improved lighting infrastructure created a more effective learning and living environment for approximately 200 students and staff members. By utilizing renewable solar energy, the project not only enhanced educational facilities but also contributed to environmental sustainability through reduced dependence on conventional energy sources, lower carbon emissions, and decreased pressure on local forest resources.
