Abstract
This project promoted Zero Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF) by using mobile technology to provide farmers with timely guidance on sustainable agricultural practices, helping reduce farming costs and improve environmental sustainability.
Detailed Description
With support from IDS, Shramik Bharti implemented an innovative project to help farmers in Uttar Pradesh adopt Zero Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF) practices through mobile technology. The initiative addressed the growing farming crisis caused by rising input costs, declining soil health, shrinking water resources, and the excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
The project used an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system to provide farmers with round-the-clock access to expert guidance on natural farming methods, crop management, organic inputs, and sustainable agricultural practices. By delivering timely and practical information through mobile phones, the initiative enabled farmers to make informed decisions, reduce cultivation costs, improve soil fertility, and protect natural resources.
Through the integration of technology and sustainable agriculture, the project strengthened rural livelihoods, encouraged environmentally responsible farming, and supported the long-term resilience of farming communities.
