Abstract

This project improved the health and nutrition of mothers and young children through community-based nutrition education, growth monitoring, and maternal engagement, leading to better child health outcomes.

Detailed Description

With support from IDS, WOTR implemented a maternal and child health project across 11 villages in the Pushprajgarh block of Anuppur district, Madhya Pradesh. The initiative focused on improving the nutritional status of young children by actively engaging mothers in nutrition education, health awareness, and regular child growth monitoring. Mothers participated in village meetings, self-help group activities, and monthly sessions at anganwadi centers, where their children were weighed and monitored to track growth and identify cases of malnutrition. These regular interactions encouraged improved childcare practices, better nutrition, and timely health interventions. The project monitored approximately 630 children over the course of a year and achieved a significant reduction in severe malnutrition, with a 48% improvement among affected children. By strengthening maternal knowledge and community participation, the initiative contributed to healthier children, improved nutrition, and stronger family well-being.
