With the support of IDS, Sodhana designed a comprehensive program to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in 34 villages for 12,552 individuals in the Vizianagaram district. Sodhana conducted prevention and safety training programs in small groups to keep the community well-informed and to reduce the stigma associated with the virus. They also conducted special training programs for their preschool and primary school volunteers on how to prevent the spread of the virus amongst students, supplying thermometers for daily monitoring of children and villagers, who are then referred to local government testing centers should they show symptoms of the virus. Sodhana also manages self-help groups (SHG) in which community members are trained on general healthcare best practices to support the needs of the community. The SHG members were given masks, sanitizer, and thermometers to reinforce COVID-19 prevention measures and continue serving SHG members.
