IDS has set-up a network of five schools to provide education to the children of rag pickers in the National Capital Region of Delhi (https://idsusa.orgprojects/education/primary-education-for-rag-pickers/). The children work, study and live among the waste they collect which creates very unsanitary conditions and health concerns. When we visited the schools, we observed children walking barefoot among heaps of waste when coming to school; the students suffer from a range of aliments that include bacterial infections, viruses and parasites. Through the help of two generous donors, we were able to provide shoes for all of our school children and are confident the attendance and performance of the students in our schools will improve as a result.
