Village Women of Madhya Pradesh Form Self-Help Collectives

wotr 2Self-Help Group (SHG) meetings took place in Mukhaskala, Gadadevri, Barbati, and Banar villages. These villages are close to each other and have two shelters (aanganwadis) in each village. The meetings were attended by the women of the community who were educated on forming self-help groups so they could work together to save money collectively to improve their socioeconomic condition. As a result of the meetings, SHGs were established in those communities. Monthly savings have been collected from all members, and women were apprised of the importance of saving money, attending the monthly meetings, and monitoring the growth of their group benefits and other project related benefits. Establishing self-help groups in the community is the first step toward addressing nutrition and education issues with the women for their children ages birth to five years.
