Quarry work is labor-intensive and physically dangerous work. Workers are migrants who come from Bihar, Orissa, and Jharkhand, and tend to be culturally and linguistically isolated from their mainstream communities. Children of quarry workers face a bleak future despite their parents’ hope to provide them with a better life. In conjunction with the local government school, IDS has set-up a supporting educational program for children of quarry workers. Our school will help quarry worker children successfully enter and acclimate to mainstream government institutions. By providing educational opportunities for quarry worker children, they can become active in helping creae a better life for themselves.
